What to See in Moltrasio and Laglio

Moltrasio and Laglio are two small towns in the province of Como, lying on the west coast of Lario. Of particular interest are the parish church dedicated to San Martino where a fragment of the Holy Crown of Thorns, worn by Jesus during the Passion, is kept. Another interesting structure from the artistic point of view is the church of Sant’Agata, dating back to the eleventh century and decorated with frescoes. In Laglio, instead, there are the churches of San Bartolomeo and San Gerolamo.

In Laglio, of particular interest, a curious 19th century funerary monument, located in the village cemetery, it is a gray marble structure, shaped like a twenty-meter high pyramid, commissioned by Joseph Frank, a doctor of Austrian origins and student of Alessandro Volta. Remarkable villas are present both in Laglio and in Moltrasio; mostly private, some are used as luxury hotels.

Here you can stroll through the streets of the respective historical centers and along the lakeside promenade, where there are numerous bars, shops and restaurants. Walks inland allow you to climb the backwaters from which to admire fabulous views of the lake and the numerous towns that adorn it.

Moltrasio is served by a ferry service that connects the main lake resorts: excellent opportunity for a trip on the lake and to enjoy from a different perspective the views offered from time to time.

Laglio rose to the headlines in recent years when the famous actor George Clooney bought two villas, where he spends all summers: who knows, a stroke of luck can perhaps allow you to meet him in person!
