Cadenabbia is a small fraction of the Municipality of Griante (about 630 inhabitants) located on the shores of Lake Como, one of the major tourist attractions in the area.
An unmissable stop is the enchanting Villa Carlotta, overlooking Lake Como. This huge structure houses inside a small museum where you can admire works of extraordinary beauty and priceless as the sculptures of Antonio Canova, paintings by Hayez and Wicar, tapestries in wool and silk, numerous frescoes and a huge collection of Cameos in plaster.
A vast botanical garden of about 70000 square meters surrounds the structure collects an extraordinary variety of flowers typical of the area, but also a forest of rhododendrons typical of the Himalayan Mountains and several trees over a hundred years old.
Another point of interest is certainly the small island Comacina full of charm and ancient history with its church, dedicated to San Giovanni (seventeenth century) and the ruins of the Basilica of Sant’Eufemia (XI century.)
Also worth mentioning is the Castello di Vezio, (XII) century, which preserves tombs and artifacts dating back to prehistoric times and the Basilica of San Giacomo. Built between the eleventh and twelfth centuries, declared a national monument with a ministerial decree in 1909.
The Gardens of Villa Melzi are also of extraordinary beauty and elegance. Set in the evocative panorama of the shores of Lake Como.
Among the culinary traditions we mention the production of DOP olive oil and the numerous gastronomic creations made possible by the fish varieties offered by Lake Como such as perch and lavarello, to be tasted if possible in the typical Crotti, historical trattorias of the territory built inside caves.
In this area also, local binding production is considered among the excellences of the Lombardy region.
